Sen. Barack Obama will visit the state on Monday, making stops in Jackson and Columbus the day before Mississippians hold their presidential preference primary, campaign officials announced.
The details of the trip are still being worked out.
The unusually tight 2008 Democratic race has allowed Mississippi to attract attention from the both of the candidates. In most years, the races have been settled before primaries are held here. In addition to Obama, former President Clinton and candidate Hillary Clinton announced Wednesday they would visit the state this week in anticipation of Tuesday's vote.
Hillary Clinton will speak tonight at the Mississippi Democratic Party’s Jefferson Jackson Hamer Day Dinner in Canton. Bill Clinton will be in Tupelo on Friday.

Know your visitors; the law according to Obama, his IL legislative record:
#1280 (91st Assembly) would regulate, by the state, how local school districts handle student detention, suspension, and expulsion cases.
# 1583 (91st Assembly) would make it a crime to sell or use BIDI cigarettes. These cigarettes are an element of the Indian culture. Yet, in another resolution he celebrates the culture of Islam by naming a day Islamic Community Day (90th Assembly, SR # 0110).
# 0040 (90th Assembly) backs the decision by the DNC to take away Florida and Michigan’s delegates to the Dem Natl Convention because they changed their primary dates. Yet, as a State Senator, he introduced legislation that changed Illinois’ general election primary date from March to May.
# 0093 (90th Assembly) requires campaign donors to record not only their name, but who their employer is. TMFI?.
# 0171 (90th Assembly) allows teens that are charged with misdemeanors to be tried by a jury of 13-19 year olds.
# 0387 (91st Assembly) allows high school seniors to be named as election judges in Illinois. Hey kid, you lose a bunch of those ballots and I’ll buy you a new iPod.
# 1324 (90th Assembly) raises the income limitations for those eligible for property tax and pharmaceutical aid from $14,000 to $16,000. And what kind of dollar assistance does this give these people? He raises the maximum allowed grant for this aid to $70.00 per person.
# 1615 (91st Assembly) if you shoot somebody within 500 feet of a church, then that is especially heinous and deserves the death penalty. In addition, under his bill, other crimes committed within 500 feet of a church will get you a greater penalty than those same crimes that were committed next to an X-Rated Video Store.
# 0943 (90th Assembly) ignores the privacy and choice concerns of the victim in a sexual assault case. This bill states that in a sexual assault case, a hospital is required to conduct appropriate medical examinations and laboratory tests, whether the victim wants them or not. This bill replaces the previous version where the woman had to consent to the examinations. Similarly, this bill requires the hospital to share all of this information with law enforcement authorities, whether the victim wants them to or not. Again, this clause replaces the ‘with the victim’s consent’ clause of the previous version.

"After several weeks of swooning, news reports are finally being filed about the gap between Senator Barack Obama's promises of a pure, soul-cleansing "new" politics and the calculated, deeply dishonest conduct of his actually-existing campaign. But it remains to be seen whether the latest ploy by the Obama camp--over allegations about the circulation of a photograph of Obama in ceremonial Somali dress--will be exposed by the press as the manipulative illusion that it is."
"While promoting Obama as a "post-racial" figure, his campaign has purposefully polluted the contest with a new strain of what historically has been the most toxic poison in American politics."
". A review of what actually happened shows that the charges that the Clintons played the "race card" were not simply false; they were deliberately manufactured by the Obama camp and trumpeted by a credulous and/or compliant press corps in order to strip away her once formidable majority among black voters and to outrage affluent, college-educated white liberals as well as college students"
"Above all, it is a commentary on the cutthroat, fraudulent politics that lie at the foundation of Obama's supposedly uplifting campaign."

Senator Obama disturbs me. He has all the lofty words however, his voting record shows something entirely different. He voted AGAINST legislation that would help to safeguard our children against sexual predators!! This is unacceptable. He does not try to help the most innocent of our people. I beg you to ensure the voters understand exactly how this man feels about one of the most important issues - our children.
We learned this week from Obama's top advisors that what he says on the campaign trail is not what he is going to do if elected.
We also know that he hsa been "appointed" to various legislature bills as an effort to push his career and that he did not vote yea or nay on more than 100 bills.
We are in an ecnomic mess, our jobs are in a decline, we don't all have health care and foreclosures are becoming commonplace. How can we afford to vote for someone bsaed upon charisma when we need to work, eat and have shleter. Hillary Clinton hs more than proven she is a candidate for action and our issues are what she fights for everyday. Vote for action, not words. Only the former can put food on the table.
50centsaday lists a number of bills supposedly sponsored by Senator Obama in the Illinois Senate, and how these bills are harmful to citizens. What's interesting is that these are all lies. Take bill #0943 which 50centsaday attributes to the 90th Assembly. His words:
"# 0943 (90th Assembly) ignores the privacy and choice concerns of the victim in a sexual assault case. Again, this clause replaces the ‘with the victim’s consent’ clause of the previous version."
But here's what the Illinois Senate records say about Bill #0943.
1. Sponsored in the 95th Assembly, not 90th as 50centsaday claims.
2. Sponsored by Sens. James F. Clayborne Jr. and Emil Jones Jr., not by Senator Obama.
3. Bill #0943 "Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Makes a technical change to a Section concerning alternative control strategies." Bill is about Environmental Protection, not about sexual Assault.
4. Nowhere does the bill mention Senator Obama.
5. Readers may check the facts on the
Illinois General Assembly Bills and Resolutions Archives page:
So, why are people like 50centsaday making up these lies? I thought this was a God-fearing country and that the commandments said: thou shalt not lie?
Look at Illinois Senate Bill #1583 which was sponsored in the 95th Assembly, not 91st as 50centsaday falsely claims.
The bill description: "Short Description: ELECTRONIC SCRAP RECYCLING". Nothing about "BIDI cigarettes"! And the bill was sponsored by 25 State Senators. Obama's name is not there. (Again, please crosscheck.)
According to 50centsaday, Obama "celebrates the culture of Islam by naming a day Islamic Community Day (90th Assembly, SR #0110)."
But here's what the Illinois Senate records say about SR #0110:
"Short Description: MEMORIAL-DOROTHEA SHEPPARD"
"Senate Sponsors: Sen. William R. Haine and All Senators"
"Synopsis As Introduced: Mourns the death of Dorothea Wilson Plummer Sheppard of Litchfield."
Nothing about Islamic Community Day! And SR #0110 was passed in the 95th Assembly, not the 90th!
Well, 50centsaday, what have you got to say for yourself about your lies? Did I read somewhere that they who lie shall perish in hell? Why do you make these lies up? Thought noone would check the facts?
It's low-life liars like you that give Mississippi a bad name. And you go on about "Islamists" and give the impression you are a Christian. And you make up false accusations against another. Well, I've got news for you. Wake up! The Klan is dead! Deal with it.
And when you're done making up false information, I guess you and people like you get a chance to share a place with all them Islamists that you hate, no? Doesn't the Bible say that? About those who lay false accusations?
You don't have to worry about Senator Obama. You've only got to worry about your poor lying soul.
Thank you Bruce Barney for listing the truth and for not standing for liars and deceivers! I hope and pray that Americans of all colors will read the facts for themselves and not be lead by false statements. I don't know why people think that they can get away with lying to Americans as if we are not smart enough to check the facts for ourselves.
For those that think Obama is pure as the driven snow - watch this -

To Mary - please check the facts.
#1280 Who would you rather have more control over how your schools are run? Federal politicians who you never had a chance to elect into office or state or local politicians who you have more influence over?
#0040 Hello!? They were penalized for moving their primaries up not back.
#0093 I bet Hillary stays up nights worrying about this one ever becoming a federal law.
#0943 I can think of a particular Lacrosse team that would have to disagree with you on this one. I bet Bill would sleep easier with a law like this on the books.
I MUST be missing something. Perhaps I didn't have a ticket to the cannonization of Obama, the one where they looked at his feet after he walked on the water and they still weren't wet. Or I missed the sprinkling of holy water or something.
Is it just me, a cynical realist, who sees a very effective politican meandering and jockeying like EVERY other politican? Or is this guy really headed for sainhood?
He is out to win -- which he very well may do. But he engages in the same petty gamesmanship as his competitors.
A little (or not so little) flip-flop on the campaign finance issue. An act of principle? Of course not: an act of blatant self-interest, nothing more, nothing less.
Slowing down the debates? An act of a democratic man-of-the-people? No, the strategy of the now front runner, who never has an interest in more debates.
How about pre-empting her TV coverage by deliberately going on the air with his speech while she was still speaking? While Machiavelli would be proud of this move, it was scarcely the move of a more noble, civil leader -- this blatant disregard for political etiquette was the act of a political operative.
Oppose seating the FL and MI delegates because they broke the DNC rules: does the anti-establsihment man-of-change stand for the rights of voters to vote? No, he says they broke the rules and shouldn't be seated. . . .
But superdelegates, who were annointed by the DNC to vote their conscience and judgement, not merely reflect their state, should go with the majority. Why, becasue that is in his interest. Should Hillary pull out the popular vote overall but still lose on the pledged delegate count -- something that is a very real possibility, BTW -- I have no doubt that he and his supporters will disavow their claim that the majority voice of the people should prevail.
And, of course, "borrowing" the words of others: probably no big deal (unless, of course, you are Joe Biden), but it happened -- once, twice or ???.
on . . . and on . . . and . . .
BTW: I do not pretend that Hillary is some puritanical virgin without a similar litany of positions that reflect her interests. I'm just tired of the old tirade against her as the "old style" politics of yesterday and the starry-eyed painting of him with a halo of righteousness.
So, please, either tell me you see it too . . .or enlighten me in the ways of the Tao of Obama.
Obama missing in action as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe to strengthen NATO troops in Afghanistan. Obama admitted in Ohio Debate that he has not held one hearing since taking the Chair in January 2007 because he has been too busy campaigning for President. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=4355006&page=2
Senator Clinton held a hearing with Lt. Gen. Joe Ballard and Vice Admiral Joseph Sestak, along with other military officers detailing her Plan for the Forgotten Front Line in Afghanistan in Washington D.C. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/story?id=4404060&page=1
Hillary has a record of delivering for Mississippi's veterans and service members.
Expanded the Family and Medical Leave Act by passing the Support for Injured Service Members Act, allowing families of wounded military up to six months unpaid leave to care for loved ones during rehabilitation.
Senator Clinton worked with (R) Sen. Lindsey Graham to get TRICARE, the Military Health Insurance Program, for all National Guard and Reservists, even when not deployed. 12,000 Mississippi's National Guard are covered.
Senator Clinton authored Heroes At Home Act, to help families learn to care for veterans with TBI; and increase screenings.
Senator Clinton worked in Senate to pass legislation to increase military survivor benefits from $12,000 to $100,000.00.
It appears that Senator Clinton has been working for citizens and the military, even while campaigning. Now will Obama have time to do all that is required of a President? I doubt it, he is great as a speech maker, and I know first hand, because I live in Illinois. I did vote for him once to be my senator. I and all of Illinois are still waiting for 'hope and change'. Well I am tired of waiting. I regret my vote for Obama. I will not regret my vote for Senator Clinton.

As a resident of Illinois I regret my vote for Obama as my senator. I am tired of waiting for his 'hope and change'. I have voted for 'change' by voting for a woman after 43 men, and that is 'change' and Hillary has proven to be a worker with results. http://www.hillaryspeaksforme.com
In this tight Democratic race, every delegate counts! Although the chances of Hillary beating Obama in a heavily black electorare is slim, those who really care about this country will vote their conscience and pocketbook, and not their color or race. Hillary has demonstrated her commitment to the people of America. That is why records matter...Obama has done nothing for Illinois. He should not be elected because he can deliver eloquent speeches. At the end of the day, the only one we can count on is Hillary, a candidate with a proven record of change on behalf of the American people!!
Call me crazy but I find it distubing that Senator Obama's ancestors were slave owners.
Yes I am an Obama supporter. I came to this blog to try to gain some insight on Mississippi voter's opinion and concerns.
Unfortunately, most of this blog is a litany of lies, rumor, innuendo and distracting misinformation about both candidates.
Dear reader: go to another source if you want to learn about the positions of these candidates. You will not find any reliable information here.
Hillary’s “proven record of change” is what worries me the most about her. Nobody really knows what she stands for except Hillary and maybe the pollsters.
The primary in Nevada was a farce to put it mildly, but it is a perfect example of just how fast she can jump sides. For months she and her family where supporting the casino workers and when their union came out in support of Obama she ran straight to the very same corporate giants she had berated for nearly the past six months. They of course took her in with open arms.
Anyone who knows anything about Tricare knows that it is a slap in the face to all veterans. Veterans were promised a totally different type of post service care than what they actually receive. They have slowly chipped away at veteran’s benefits since the seventies. No politicians that I know of have stood up and done anything about this except to invent programs that take more away from vets and put that money back into the government coffers with programs like Tricare and that includes the eight years the Clintons were in office.

alexa, with all due respect, I think that most people would say that you are not crazy, just plain stupid.
You Clinton staffers and volunteers are incredible!
diamond dancer: Don't worry about it. Most of these fear and hate postings are Clinton shills camped out here until Tuesday. They think the people of MS are too ignorant to know any better. Nice try.
Hillary never thought she'd have to struggle for votes when Mississippi came around. That's why she slandered the state when she was in Iowa. The chickens have come home.
It is becoming clear that the biggest difference between Obama and Hillary or McCain is that Obama is less experienced. He is neither morally superior (lies about Rezko, Iraq and NAFTA) nor does he represent "change". In which case Hillary is the more experienced of the democratic candidates and she's won the bigger Republican states (Ohio, Tx, Califonia, NY, NJ, etc.) needed, to upset a national Republican candidate who's platform is most certainly going to include national security, in Republican rival, John McCain.
I mean, it's called politics for a reason, if this shows us all anything... it's that Hillary's extremly TOUGH...AND...WHEN HER BACKS UP AGAINST THE WALL...SHE WILL NOT GIVE UP... OR... FOLD UNDER PRESSURE...two great qualities we...(This...Mr. Obama, is the kind of experience that Mrs. Clinton's talking about...in case you wanted to know) ..the American People need...in a Commander In Chief. All Obama's done since losing these three states is complain, cry, and accuse everyone from Hillary's, "negativity" campaigning (it's called campaigning for a reason, Barack) to The Media (Yes, that does include you too, CNN, your guy Obama...turned on you, too...all while you guys were gwetting ready to coronate Obama as King, President and Imperial Emperor too, I assume) as to WHY he lost and then the minute things didn't go his way...guess what...HE FOLDED. Since then, he's talked about going negative against Hillary (He does know that he's running against a Clinton, right...isn't this all par for the course...I mean, what does he think he's going to dredge up that could embarrass her, now?) and complain and cry and point his finger at everyone...but...HIMSELF...never once showing the kind of respect and humility for an opponent by just shutting up, smiling good naturedly, graciously and start campaigning again and just plain sucking it all up...losses and all...much like Hillary Clinton did while she was losing to him. Never once did you see her complain about anything when she was losing, except when in the most televised debate she was on and only when over 85% of the first questions went at her, (just so that Obama could "parrot" something back on everything that she just said, right after her) and it was increasingly obvious that the debate was made for "Emperor, Obama" to grandstand his Issues and Agenda to the American People. Problem is, Barack Obama had no real issues to talk about during his "Sermons" whoops, I mean, "Speeches"...and he has no "Real Agenda" on how to fix this great nation of ours...the "American People" weren't and "aren't" about to just "buy it" just based on the use of generic everyday words...like, "hope" and "change" any longer. Hillary has continously referenced, "actual programs" (like her "Houses for Hope" program) she's got "ready to go" all during her speeches and during debates, while Obama just sat down there...every time, ready to "parrot" again or just change the topic towards what the other candidates were doing at the time, whenever he's pressed on what his actual "Agenda's" are, so that we...the American People...couldn't actually see that he didn't have any. In closing, Hillary has shown to us...the American People...that she's "Gritty Tough" and gracious when dealing and battling against her most formidable rivals' yet, she also's shown us,that she won't fold under presure or cave in like Obama has, apparently, when the going gets TOUGH...Hillary Clinton, "JUST GET'S TOUGHER". These are qualities that even if you don't like it...you still...have to respect it, when you see it in another person...this' something that other nations and people from across our noble globe would see and also respect. PEOPLE OF MISSISSIPPI AND PENNSYLVANIA...VOTE IN HILLARY CLINTON AS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT. THANK YOU!!
Well, familyauto, how about 61-37 for experience in winning?
Keep dreaming. We'll keep winning. That's the American way.
